The Don Gill Tournament is held in May each year with a BBQ
The 7th Don Gill Tournament took place on Sunday 20 May on another perfect summers day when 16 eager competitors arrived to enjoy the afternoons activities.
Neil Gill arranged the Order of Play and 6 energetic rounds took place with partners changing half way through each round ensuring a good variety of play.
The top scoring lady of the afternoon was Pauline Watts, the top scoring man was Ryan Thomas - congratulations to both.
Don presented Pauline and Ryan with a trophy each which they can proudly display for a year.
The afternoon was rounded off with the traditional BBQ expertly cooked by Neil and his daughter. Alison prepared a tasty selection of salads and dressings.
The participants and the committee would like to thank the Gill family for organising the whole event, and the weather, again this year.

Sunday 22nd May saw the running of 5th annual Don Gill Tournament.
A great turnout of 16 players battled through 7 rounds of hard fought games, before tucking into a well earned BBQ.
The rain almost held off until the games were finished and the brollies allowed the cooking to go ahead. The hungry hoards munched through a mountain of burgers, sausages and home-made cakes, all washed down with a glass or two of liquid refreshments.
Congratulations to the winners with Matt Tomes topping the men’s table and a joint victory for Sue Dawson and Emma Tomes in the ladies. Well done to the runners up, Dick Avery and Pauline Watts. Don presented the winners with the trophies which will be engraved with their names.
Thanks to all for supporting this event, especially Margaret for the mountain of onions again. Lovely to see everyone enjoying themselves. See you all again at the next tournament.
Sunday 17th May 2015 saw the running of the 4th.annual Don Gill Tournament.
An even larger attendance of 22 players this year fought it out for the Top Lady and Top Man trophies. The tournament was run over 8 (and a bit) rounds with each player taking part in six 18 minute rounds – or 6 games – whichever came first. The format of the tournament encourages players of all levels to mix in and have a shot at the title.
The trophies were hard fought over with a play-off for the ladies between Bea Thelwell and Emma Tomes with Emma eventually triumphing. The men’s trophy was won by Martyn Stringer with Salim Jadavji as runner up. Congratulations to them, their names will be engraved on the trophies for this year.
The play was followed by a barbecue with at least 30 people enjoying bangers, burgers, rolls, salads, and some lovely homemade cakes all washed down with a drink or two.
Thank you to all the participants, looking forward to see you at next year’s event.
