Mike Stenton Singles Tournament
2018 Inaugural Mike Stenton Singles
The committee decided to rename the singles Tournament in honour of Mike Stenton and all the contribution he has made to the club over many years. We also commissioned a new trophy for the event.
Mike Stenton, Carl Murray, Ryan Thomas, Tony Shadbolt, Tom Hawkins, Richard Hollyer and Mark Skipper battled it out on the afternoon of 15th September in a series of championship tie break singles rounds in which everyone had the chance to play everyone else.
After a lot of fantastic tennis - Ryan Thomas emerged as the winter and took home the trophy. A few snaps from the day are shown below.
Thanks to all who took part, and a particular thank you to Carl Murray and Mike Stenton for organising another great fun and competitive afternoon at the club.

2016/17 Club Winter Singles League
On Saturday 29th April the Club held the 2016/17 winter singles league.
Eight players battled out a great afternoon's tennis: Carl and James Murray, Matt and Emma Tomes, Richard Hollyer, Mark Skipper, Chris MacDonald and Mike Stenton.
The format was championship tie break matches, and everyone had 7 rounds of competition.
At the end of the afternoon after many nail bitingly close matches Chris MacDonald emerged as the overall winner taking all seven of his matches. He was presented with his first, I believe trophy won at Horsenden.
Second place: Emma Tomes our only lady entering, did really well by winning five of her matches and the two she lost were by only a two point margin.
Results (rounds won)
Chris McDonald 7
Emma Tomes 5
Mike Stenton 5
Matt Tomes 4
Carl Murray 3
Richard Hollyer 2
Mark Skipper 2
James Murray 0
The format worked really well and a great day's tennis was enjoyed - the 2017/18 Winter event will be organised in due course.
